I have lost weight several times over in my life and I won’t lie, it felt good. I’ve enjoyed wearing what I like and feeling more body confident but… (you knew there was a but coming if you know me by now!)… I didn’t lose THE weight.
You won’t be. Have you had that increasingly uneasy feeling as you see the scales go down and the measurements improve that there continues to be a problem here? You fit into your size 10 skinny jeans but…
You take yourself with you.
Inside those ‘tighter than is naturally good for the flow of air to your lady parts jeans’ continues to be a woman who feels stressed, anxious, low, insecure. A woman who is afraid to take up space in this world and is desperately trying to make herself smaller.
Now, of course, this is not everyone and I am not writing for you if you have lost pounds, kept them off and feel fulfilled, content and raring to go in life. Go change the world sister!
I am writing to you. Yes, you, the woman who knows that no amount of fat loss, food prep or squats will sort out your head and your heart.
That’s the weight. That’s the additional burden we are carrying around every single day. We carry it into work where we don’t speak up, step up and put up with the same old shite. We carry it into our relationships when we don’t feel worthy to ask for what we need and then resent not getting it. We carry it into our parenting when we martyr ourselves until 11pm getting the kids’ stuff ready, the house clean and no sleep, little sleep or crappy sleep.
Ok, that’s a pretty glum picture but it’s there isn’t it? It’s true.
So what? How do we lose that kind of numbing, soul-destroying weight?
Here are my suggestions based on working with clients who are losing the weight in their lives:
